By parameterizing key elements such as the handlebar diameter, holder positions (both minimum and maximum), and the thickness of each piece, the design process is optimized for efficiency.
Additionally, intricate features like the sliding rails within the claw grips and the details of indents and bumps where the mount attaches to the holder were seamlessly extruded from a single sketch onto distinct components. This not only saves time but also simplifies the overall timeline, enhancing the design's coherence and functionality.
Engineered for strength, user convenience, and optimal printability, this phone holder and mount boast a thoughtful design. The handlebar mount comprises two components: one enveloping the majority of the bar and a flat second piece secured to the first using two M3x12 screws. The latter features an external extrusion that houses an M5 heat set insert. Due to the curved base and substantial overhang of the first piece, it is printed on its side. Conversely, the second piece, with intricate top features, is printed in its standard orientation thanks to its flat base.
The phone holder consists of two components as well – a base and an attachment. The larger base includes an M5 counterbore hole accommodating the head of an M5x25 screw, securely attaching it to the flat mount piece. The larger portion of the holder incorporates one side of the claw grip, complemented by two rails extending from the smaller side of the grip and corresponding holes in the base holder. The interplay of these elements, combined with an M5x30 screw passing through the small holder and fastening into the larger one, enables the grips to open and close based on the tightening of the screw.
The tightening screw features a 3D-printed knob with a compression-fit design around its head, allowing for increased user-friendliness as it is easy to turn without any tools. This design ensures compatibility between this mount and everyday activities.
